Obstetrical care is the medical practice of caring for women and their baby’s health through several stages of motherhood, beginning with prenatal care and ending with postnatal care.
Gynecological services include a wide range of preventive care services such as pap smears, STI testing, pelvic exams, ultrasounds, and blood work.
Gynecologic surgery is surgery on any part of a woman’s reproductive system, including the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.
In-office procedures streamline the process for both diagnosis and treatment of many common gynecologic issues like abnormal pap smears, heavy periods, urinary incontinence and birth control.

At Woodus Obstetrics & Gynecology, we recognize the weeks following birth are a critical period for new mothers and their newborns. We recommend an initial postpartum assessment no later than two weeks after delivery. We place great emphasis on a comprehensive postpartum program that includes assessment of the physical, social, and psychological well-being of our mothers. Attention to the fourth trimester is a key aspect of comprehensive obstetrical care. Our services and support are tailored to meet each individual woman’s needs.
Sonographic evaluation is an important aspect of routine of obstetrical care. We typically perform OB ultrasounds at the following times: confirmation of pregnancy between 6-10 weeks of gestation, anatomy evaluation between 18-20 weeks of gestation, third trimester growth ultrasound around 36 weeks of gestation. Obstetrical ultrasounds may also be performed at other times as clinically indicated.
Periodic laboratory evaluations during pregnancy also provide a means to assess health and well-being during the gestation period. Routine labs are typically drawn as follows: New OB labs, genetic screening labs, 24-28 week labs, GBS screening. Additional labs may also be performed as clinically indicated.
At Woodus Obstetrics and Gynecology we are committed to improving obstetrical outcomes. Preconception health education and optimization are an important piece of this puzzle. This visit also includes risk assessments and identifies interventions that are crucial in improving perinatal outcomes.
